FAQ
Does it have to be an egg?
No! You can do anything you like, as long as it's something associated with springtime, or Easter. You can do bunnies, bonnets, flowers, chicks...whatever. Just for the sake of simplicity on this site, we will refer to them as "Easter Eggs" - little hidden treats for others to find.
How do I get an Easter Egg?
Make one, printing one or contact us and we can see if we have someone who might like to send an artwork over to you.

We've created some templates to make things easier, which just has the basic egg shape and some QR codes. Download the template pack (PDF) or get just the image you want. Because they are designed to printed in an A4 home printer, they are a little small - we would encourage you to GO BIGGER!!!

You can use anything you like to make your item. Collage, sculpture, etc.
Where should I put the Easter Egg?
Anywhere that you think might be spotted by others from the street - hidden but not too hidden! Windows, walls, lamposts, behind street signs. Please remember to put the QR code label to help other people find the trail.
If you put them in your window: Remember people will be stopping to look at your windows so maybe think about which room may suit this best.
If you put them somewhere other than your window: Do make sure they won't be in the way, keeping writing and hinges clear. Please be considerate and use your common sense.
How do I affix the Easter Egg?
Sticky tape works fine for light stuff, string. Don't use anything that may harm your paintwork and or other surfaces when sticking up the artwork. Use particular caution when you are mounting in a place that isn't yours - it should be able to be taken down if it is in the way.
How do I find the Easter Eggs?
If you want to plan your route or activity, check out the map to see the ones that have already been found. Or just go out with your eagle eyes! Don't see many of them? Well... why not make a few and stick em up to encourage others... Not all eggs will be on the map at the beginning.
Do I have to be in West Chesterton?
No! It would be great if more people in the North Cambridge Wards - Kings Hedges, Arbury, Castle, East Chesteron - took part. It's just a bigger area, that's all.  By all means, see if you can get your neighbours to join in. The more the merrier!
I have more creativity than windows - can I help others?
Yes please! Some people may enjoy displaying other people's works - we will coordinate (in a covid safe manner) to make sure your artwork gets displayed in their window! Get in touch and we will see what we can do.

This is a great idea, when are you launching the Chesterton Trail?
28 March, the weekend after schools break up for Easter holidays.

You can put Easter eggs up before then, To generate a bit of a buzz so people know that it's coming, and it's OK to be a bit late!
How long will the trail last for?
We'd suggest 10th of April, over the Easter Holidays, but it's up to you.
People may enjoying keeping Spring themed windows up for longer.
I had a display in my window but I need to remove it. What do I do?
That's fine, we know circumstances change. You can just take the pin off the map.
I've taken a great photo from the trail. How do I share it?
Great! Make sure it doesn't show anyone who hasn't given permission for you to share this. We would love it if you could tag us into your pictures on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the tag #chestertontrail
And finally...Why?
Because we want to! With the weather changing and the relative safety of outdoor walks as an activity, we wanted to create a fun, inclusive activity for our community to engage in. Hopefully we'll be spreading smiles!

West Chesterton Mutual Aid was set up last year in response to the Covid crisis, so that people could give and ask for help they needed. We found our role was not just to deliver food and medicine, but also just create a sense of belonging and allow people to share their creativity and joy with others. It's good for our mental health.
We hope you like it.
